Recently, Kelso-Burnett Co. completed the award-winning expansion and renovation of the Poplar Creek Public Library in Streamwood, Illinois. The project consisted of remodeling and expanding an existing 44,000 square-foot building to a modern 97,000 square-foot cultural center. With a heavy desire for sustainability, Kelso-Burnett Co. added completely new lighting and a new distribution system to both the remodel and addition.
Since re-opening its doors to the public, the Poplar Creek Library has won many prestigious awards. The project won the 2009 GE Edison Award of Merit which showcases the most creative and effective use of the newest lighting technologies. It has also won the 2010 AIA Chicago Design Excellence Award for Interior Architecture, and was recently chosen as the number one Landmark Library in the country (out of the top ten Landmark Libraries) constructed in the past five years!
